Winter found us celebrating Day 100 and Dr. Seuss!!   All of the classes read special books about the 100th day of school or the number 100.    They also read about Horton the elephant in honor of Dr. Seuss Day in March.   The new movie of Horton Hears a Who is coming to theaters on March 14th.  In honor of this, we dressed up the kindergarteners and first graders as elephants.  Mrs. Voelker, Mrs. Sheridan and Mrs. Bohman were the Wickersham Brothers  ( the evil monkeys who wanted to boil Horton’s dust speck).  A good time was had by all !!! 

 

New AR tests will be added before the end of the year.  Remember that you can always request a list of books within your child’s ZPD range as well as a list of books that they have already taken tests on.   For either of these requests, email or send a note to Mrs. Bohman .

 

The fifth graders have been learning about editorial cartooning and have even written their own cartoons.  This study came about because Dr. Seuss began his career writing editorial cartoons during the war. 

The fourth graders continue to learn about doing research in the library. 

The third graders have been studying African American History and completed a unit about Jerry Pinkney, author and illustrator. 

The second graders continue their study of authors and illustrators.  They will also be learning about non-fiction books. 

The first graders read Caps For Sale  and made monkeys from the story.

The kindergarteners are almost finished reading through the alphabet.

The preschoolers  have read about animals, snow and Dr. Seuss.

The public libraries and our website DO NOT have the most recent updates to our AR list of quizzes.  The most recent list can be accessed by using our new AR BOOKFINDER site.  Go to www.arbookfind.com  and type in the keycode VZ141006. Press GO and then the Quick Search tab.  You can type in any title to see if we have it in the library and if we have the test. A WORD OF CAUTION:THE TESTS WE HAVE WILL BE HIGHLIGHTED IN RED!!! Many times there is an AR test available for the book, but we do not own that test.  It must be highlighted in red to show that we own that test.   This site will immediately update upon additions of new tests.  The webpage does not update automatically.  This is also a great way to see what books we have in the library as it also acts as our catalog.  Again, the titles and quizzes we have are highlighted in red.
