4th Quarter News

I can ‘t believe that the year has flown by so quickly!  It has been wonderful!

Reading

Do you have your passport?  Are you packed? This quarter we will be reading stories from other lands.  We will read stories from Japan and Korea as well as others.  This quarter, I will also be reading aloud, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl.  Check out this website for more about Wonka candy.  http://www.wonka.com/

By the end of the quarter, we will read the novel Sarah, Plain and Tall.

Check out this website about Sarah, Plain and Tall:  www.kidsreads.com/funstuff/trivia/sarah-plain-triv.asp

We will also try really hard to meet our AR goals this quarter.  Remember that starting early helps tremendously.  The last day to get AR points for the 4th quarter is May 16th.

Writing

How would you describe a football game?  Could you persuade someone to do something?  This quarter we are going to work on descriptive paragraphs and complete an exercise to help us better write a persuasive paragraph.  For this exercise, we will be creating a mini oil spill and then discussing the effects that it has on the environment.  We will then write persuasive paragraphs to Senator Jim Bunning expressing our ideas.  Learn more about Senator Bunning by logging onto

Language Arts

Smile! You’re on Candid Camera!    Well not really. J But this quarter we are going to delve into adjectives.  As part of our study, we will be creating commercials, which we will videotape.  Also on the agenda are prepositions, adverbs, and conjunctions.

Math

How many different shapes do you see on your way to school?  We are knee deep in geometry.  We will continue with geometry this quarter.  For more fun with geometry, check this site out:

But, then we see what the probability is that we will be able to get the correct answers as we move into data and probability, decimals and fractions, and more difficult multiplication and division.
